In regions where legal certainty is challenged by economic cycles and political transitions, lawyers play a key role in maintaining stability, guiding investment, and upholding the rule of law. Today, legal professionals are called to navigate complexity, manage risk, and uncover opportunities. Across Latin America and other emerging markets, the legal landscape is shifting rapidly in response to political change, regulatory pressure, and rising societal expectations.
Join AIJA’s 5th Americas Meeting in Perú (the country that hosted the new Pope for several years), to connect with participants from different jurisdictions around the world, and share insights on emerging challenges, and reflect on the legal profession’s responsibility and resilience in moments of change. The academic programme will revolve around related topics like legal strategies for structuring investments in volatile environments; evolving standards in corporate governance and crisis management; the legal dimensions of natural resource development and community engagement; and regional trends in compliance, anti-corruption, and ESG.
The backdrop for this unique meeting will be a coastal capital that blends colonial history with modern vitality. As a key legal and financial hub in the region, Lima provides the perfect setting for international exchange. Renowned for its award-winning gastronomy, cultural depth, and proximity to amazing attractions such as Machu Picchu and Iquitos, the city provides a compelling setting for dialogue and networking.

Transfer from the Airport
Lima’s international airport, Jorge Chávez International Airport, has one terminal, making arrivals straightforward and easy to navigate. The event venue hotel, Pullman Lima Miraflores, is located approximately 18 km from the airport. Due to Lima’s traffic, the journey usually takes 45 minutes to 1 hour, but during peak hours it may take up to 1 hour and 30 minutes. The easiest and safest option is to take a licensed taxi from the official counters inside the airport arrivals area. Participants are strongly advised to use these authorized airport taxi services. The approximate cost of a taxi ride to Miraflores is USD 20–30 (around PEN 70–110).
Getting Around Miraflores (Uber / Cabify)
Getting around Miraflores is easy and convenient. In addition to taxis, ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Cabify are widely used in Lima by both residents and visitors. These services allow you to request a ride directly from your smartphone, see the estimated fare in advance and pay through the app. Most short trips within Miraflores usually take between 5 and 15 minutes, depending on traffic, and typically cost between USD 3 and USD 8.
Getting to the Club Nacional
The event venue, Club Nacional, is located in downtown Lima (Centro de Lima), approximately 10 km from Pullman Lima Miraflores. Due to traffic conditions in Lima, the journey usually takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes, depending on the time of day. The easiest way to reach the venue is by taxi or through ride-hailing apps such as Uber or Cabify. The approximate cost of the ride is USD 8–15 (around PEN 30–55), and participants are advised to allow extra travel time during peak hours.

Shopping
For shopping, dining and entertainment with ocean views, Larcomar is one of Lima’s most popular shopping destinations. Located along the Miraflores cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, it features a variety of international and local brand stores, restaurants, cafés and bars. It is approximately 8–10 minutes on foot from Pullman Lima Miraflores.
Opening hours: Most shops are open daily from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm, while restaurants and bars may remain open later in the evening.
Safety
Lima is manageable for visitors, but it is still important to use normal big-city precautions. The districts most commonly used by visitors are Miraflores, Barranco, and San Isidro, which are generally the easiest and most comfortable areas to navigate. The most common risks are petty theft and phone snatching, particularly in crowded places or near roads. It is best to avoid displaying valuables openly, to be cautious with phones on sidewalks, and to use registered/app-based transport, especially at night.
The airport is in Callao, and extra caution is advisable when moving around that area outside direct airport transfers.
Currency and Exchange Rate
The official currency in Peru is the Peruvian Sol (PEN). The exchange rate may vary slightly, but USD 1 is approximately equivalent to PEN 3.35–3.50. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants and shops in the Miraflores area, although it is advisable to carry some cash for small purchases or taxis.
